Question
List the different methods of propagation of Mulberry plantation. Explain any one in detail
Methods of Propagation of Mulberry Plantation:
Asexual Propagation (Cutting Propagation):
Asexual Propagation, also known as Cutting Propagation, is the process of growing new plants from a piece of a parent plant. This method is commonly used for mulberry plant propagation. This method is simple, easy and fast, making it an ideal option for farmers who want to quickly establish a large plantation. The process of cutting propagation involves the following steps:
Selecting the right parent plant: Select a healthy and mature mulberry plant with a straight stem, thick branches and good foliage. The ideal time to take cuttings is during the spring season, when the plant is actively growing.
Taking cuttings: Cut a piece of stem with a length of about 10 to 15 cm and with 3 to 4 buds. The cutting should be taken from a young, semi-hardwood shoot. Make a clean cut just below a node using a sharp and sterilized knife.
Preparing the cuttings: Remove the leaves from the lower part of the cutting and dip the cut end in rooting hormone. This hormone will stimulate root growth and increase the chances of success.
Planting the cuttings: Fill a pot with a well-draining soil mix, water it thoroughly, and plant the cutting about 2 cm deep in the soil. Cover ________ _____________ __ __________ _________ ____ _____ ________ ________.
