Electrophoresis is a separation technique that is based on the principle of movement of charged molecules under the influence of an electric field. Proteins, being amphoteric in nature, carry both positive and negative charges depending on the pH of the medium. When an electric field is applied, the net charge on a protein determines the direction and rate of its migration.
