a) Signs and Symptoms of Thalassemia in Meenu:
1. Fatigue: Meenu is likely to experience persistent tiredness and weakness due to the decreased oxygen-carrying capacity of her blood caused by the insufficient hemoglobin production.
2. Pale skin and mucous membranes: Thalassemia can lead to anemia, resulting in paleness of the skin and mucous membranes, especially evident in the conjunctiva and inside the mouth.
3. Shortness of breath: The inadequate oxygen supply to body tissues may lead to shortness of breath even with minimal physical activity.
4. Rapid or irregular heartbeat: The heart may compensate for the reduced oxygen supply by beating faster or irregularly.
5. Jaundice: Thalassemia can cause an increased breakdown of red blood cells, leading to elevated bilirubin levels and subsequent yellowing of the skin and eyes.
