The Rational Method is a widely used method for estimating the peak runoff rate in a watershed. It is based on the principle that runoff from a watershed is directly proportional to the rainfall intensity and the area of the watershed. The method uses a simple mathematical formula to calculate the peak runoff rate, which is then used to design drainage systems, such as storm sewers, channels, and culverts.

 

The assumptions of the Rational Method are as follows:

  1. The runoff from a watershed is directly proportional to the rainfall intensity and the area of the watershed.
