The concept of family has undergone significant changes in recent times, with various forms, functions and dynamics emerging.

One of the most notable changes is the diversification of family forms. In the past, the traditional nuclear family, consisting of a married couple and their children, was considered the norm. However, today, there are a variety of family forms, including single-parent families, blended families, same-sex parent families, and even child-free families.

Another change is the changing function of the family. In the past, the primary function of the family was to provide for the physical and emotional needs of its members, as well as to reproduce and raise the next generation. Today, however, the family also plays a crucial role in providing economic, social and psychological support for its members. Many families today are also responsible for providing care for older family members.

The dynamics of families have also changed significantly. In the past, the traditional gender roles within the family were rigidly defined, with the father being the breadwinner and the mother being responsible for raising the children and managing the household. Today, however, both men and women are increasingly sharing responsibilities within the family, with fathers taking on more of the child-rearing responsibilities and mothers pursuing careers outside of the home.

Additionally, the concept of family has become more inclusive, with an increasing acceptance of diverse family forms and structures. Non-traditional families, such as those led by same-sex couples or single parents, are now more accepted and recognized as valid family forms.

Furthermore, the technological advancement and the expansion of communication networks have also changed the way families interact and communicate with one another. Remote work and virtual communication have made it possible for families to live in different locations while still maintaining close relationships.

Another emerging form of family is the extended family, which includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, who often live in separate households but maintain close relationships and provide support for one another. This type of family structure is particularly common in cultures where extended families have traditionally played a significant role in the upbringing of children and the care of older family members.

Another trend that is becoming more common is the concept of the "chosen family."
